By John Schell
Selections based on a soft track.
Race 1 - 12:25PM GOODLUCK ROBIN TAYLOR IN YOUR NEW GOLF CLUB GM ROLE 3YO MAIDEN PLATE (1200 METRES)
1. Fire Star is a well-bred colt that has been fitted for his race debut with four barrier trials. The Peter and Paul Snowden prepared three-year-old returned from a break with a trial win at this track last month and backed it up with another trial victory at Rosehill. From the good draw, Fire Star should be prominent from the outset.
Dangers: 2. Gold Bullion and 3. Solar System are both first starters from the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott stable. They have both impressed with their trial efforts and can be prominent. 5. Gleaming is resuming from a spell for trainer Chris Waller and has had the benefit of two recent barrier trials.
How to play it: Fire Star WIN; Trifecta 1/ 2,3,5/ 2,3,5
Race 2 - 1:05PM BOOK YOUR NEXT FUNCTION AT WYONG RACE CLUB CLASS 1 & MAIDEN PLATE (2100 METRES)
2. Deep Voyage was a strong winner at Hawkesbury two starts back when justifying an odds-on quote to score. He backed that up with a solid second at Kembla Grange last time out. Deep Voyage looks to have more upside than his rivals in this.
Dangers: 1. Blue Guitar has been placed at each of his latest two starts and looks suited by this distance. 3. Earl Of Devon can improve on his latest effort while 4. Sonny Fella and 6. Interventionist are capable of running into the placings on the back of their sound recent efforts.
How to play it: Deep Voyage WIN.
Race 3 - 1:45PM LADIES DAY - SUNDAY AUGUST 27 MAIDEN HANDICAP (1350 METRES)
8. Decisive Lass is a lightly raced mare that was given two barrier trials this campaign before resuming with a solid fourth at Kembla Grange behind subsequent Saturday city winner Kangaroo Court. She followed that up with a third at Kembla Grange and can be suited by the step up to the 1350m in this.
Dangers: 6. Zarrose is from the powerful Peter and Paul Snowden stable and looked good on debut when finishing second to Howgoodareyou at Hawkesbury. With the benefit of natural improvement, Zarrose will be hard to hold out from the good draw. 3. Sense Of Humour and 4. Zara’s Hope have solid place claims.
How to play it: Decisive Lass EACH WAY.
Race 4 - 2:20PM DE BORTOLI WINES PROVINCIAL MAIDEN HANDICAP (1000 METRES)
1. Hongkong Harmony is a former Hong Kong-based galloper that resumed from a lengthy spell with a solid third at Gosford last time out after enduring a tough run in transit. Hongkong Harmony will have derived plenty of benefit from that hit out and has the advantage of barrier one.
Dangers: 5. Sherbies is on debut and has had three trials, the latest in which she finished fourth at Gosford. Andrew Adkins takes the ride for trainer Kylie Gavenlock. 6. Hell Of A Show is also on debut for the Kristen Buchanan stable and he has looked good in each of his three barrier trials.
How to play it: Hongkong Harmony EACH WAY.
Race 5 - 2:55PM TAB.COM.AU CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1200 METRES)
4. Boston Rocks looked the goods when easily winning two barrier trials before resuming from a spell with a strong win at Gosford when racing on the speed and racing away to score as an odds-on elect. Boston Rocks is drawn well in gate three.
Dangers: 2. Solvere may not have the best form on paper but this looks to be a suitable race for him if anywhere near his best, with Jason Collett taking the reins. Solvere was impressive in winning a recent barrier trial. 1. Gardenzio is lightly raced and shows potential.
How to play it: Boston Rocks WIN.
Race 6 - 3:35PM CARLTON WYONG GOLD CUP FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 1 BENCHMARK 64 HANDICAP (1600 METRES)
1. Dreamdeel was a winner over 1850m prior to going for a spell then he resumed with a solid fifth at Rosehill behind Soami. He will strip fitter for this event. Looke the one to beat here with Allhallowtide coming out.
Dangers: 9. Remus was a solid last-start winner at this track and he can be prominent again. 4. Reach Beyond could sneak into the placings.
How to play it: Allhallowtide WIN.
Race 7 - 4:10PM TO THE MOON AND BACK IN MEMORY OF LYN GALE MIDWAY BENCHMARK 64 HANDICAP (1000 METRES)
3. Chipper has been racing consistently and, on the strength of a last-start third to subsequent city placegetter Vindication, he looks the one to beat here. Chipper is drawn well in barrier 4 and will take plenty of running down.
Dangers: 1. Vegas Raider has been racing below his best in his latest two starts but on the strength of his resuming fifth at Rosehill he can be given consideration in this. A solid speed up should suit Vegas Raider. 5. Mr Bingo is a speedy type and he is sure to give plenty of cheek with Anna Roper’s three-kilogram claim an advantage.
How to play it: Chipper WIN.
Race 8 - 4:50PM WYONG’S NEXT RACE DAY SUNDAY AUGUST 27 CONDITIONAL BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP (1350 METRES)
7. Appetite For Risk was strong to the line when finishing fourth at Goulburn when second-up from a spell. He steps up to his ideal distance range in this and is set to peak for trainer Bryce Heys.
Dangers: 3. Chain Of Gold had been racing well for trainer Matthew Smith with a couple of placings before failing as favourite on a heavy track at Taree last time out. A better track condition here would pave the way for improvement. 4. Gendarmerie has been racing well enough in city grade of late and she will appreciate the step back to this company.
How to play it: Appetite For Risk EACH WAY.
