A 40-year-old woman from Darley has been identified as the person killed following an incident at a suburban home in Melbourne’s west on Thursday.
A 51-year-old Hoppers Crossing man remains under police guard after being taken to hospital in a critical condition.
Homicide squad detectives are investigating the death after emergency crews found the woman unresponsive at a home in Grevillea Crescent in Hoppers Crossing.
Police went to the address just after 1pm following reports of a disturbance, arresting a man who they say was acting erratically at the scene.
Officers searching the home later found the woman, who died at the scene.
Ambulance Victoria said a man, believed to be in his 50s, was taken to Royal Melbourne Hospital in a serious condition with upper body injuries. The hospital said the man remained in a critical condition on Friday morning.
“It is believed the pair were known to each other and police are not looking for anyone further at this time,” a police spokesperson said.
Police said the circumstances of the death were still to be determined and that their investigation was ongoing.
Grevillea Crescent was closed to traffic on Thursday evening as officers searched for evidence. The street was opened on Friday morning.
